Workplace
The health and safety of the Group's employees are of paramount importance as Avocet recognises that employees represent the Company's most valuable resource. At the heart of Avocet's safety programme is a system of regular and comprehensive training programmes in the numerous safe work procedures which have been established.
We strive to ensure that a culture of continuous improvement exists across all our work locations through the use of hazard identification systems and individual departmental audits. Thorough primary safety inductions are undertaken for all Avocet staff, contractors and visitors on site. Operations supervisors are provided with leading indicator training to allow them to manage safety in the workplace. Our safety department works alongside supervisors to ensure safety regulations are fully adhered to.

Avocet investigates all incidents, accidents and near misses, with the focus being on identifying root causes to ensure these are eliminated or controlled. Safety efforts are underpinned by ensuring that:

Procedures and work practices are regularly reviewed and updated;
Protective equipment is correctly maintained and properly used;
Safety is a measure of individual, departmental and site performance;
Staff are adequately trained in first aid, health issues and emergency response;
Positive encouragement is given toward safety awareness and initiatives;
All incidents are promptly reported, assessed and actions taken;
Regular workplace inspections and audits are conducted; and
Regular safety inductions, meetings and training are provided.
The success of this safety programme is reflected in the fact that Inata's employees and contractors have together achieved more than six million loss time injury free hours, making Inata a global industry leader in safety practises. Inata's management and employees continue to work together as a team to maintain the operation's safety record.
In 2011, the Board established a Health, Safety and Environment Committee. The Health, Safety and Environment Committee obtains assurance that the appropriate systems are in place to deal with the management of health, safety, environmental, and community relations matters. This includes reviewing policies and procedures, assessing serious incidents and responses, and ensuring ongoing compliance with appropriate local regulations and international best practice. The Health, Safety and Environment Committee is chaired by Mike Donoghue and its other members are Barry Rourke and Russell Edey.
